Many of you have a special place in your home where you might display photos and other family treasures. Our place is a corner we call “Snots and Knots.” The poem titled “Tapestry” is surrounded by name plaques of our grandchildren. Each plaque describes what their names mean, reminding us that “God knows and calls each of them by name” (Psalm 91:14; Isaiah 43:1). In their name we can see some of their God-given traits and their unique personalities. Each one of them is so special!
If you look at the back side of a tapestry, it’s hard to see the finished pattern. It’s all knots and strings, but looking at the front side, you see the finished product. All of its beauty is evident, and so it is with raising children. While they are young and growing, sometimes all we see is “snots and knots,” but if we watch each one of them carefully, we can see the true beauty God has woven into them.
The poem (by Allison Chambers Coxsey) that is written on the plaque reads:
Woven threads of color,
A beauty to behold;
Each thread a chapter of a life,
The tapestry unfolds.
There within the richness,
Are tears of golden hue;
While silver threads of laughter,
Are gently woven through.
Hanging there in splendor,
For all the world to see;
The beauty of a life well spent,
In richest tapestry.
It takes tears and laughter to raise a child. Enjoy the beauty within each one of your children this Mother’s Day. They are “wonderfully complex” a “marvel of God’s handiwork.”
Psalm 139:14 (NLT) 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
Love and Blessings,
Pastor Pat
