Hallelujah (Dictionary): Used to express praise; joy; or thanks; a shout or song of praise or thanksgiving; a shout or song of praise or thanks to God.
Hallelujah (Bible): Hallelujah, Praise the Lord; rule, reign, reign over.
As we enter into Easter, we must first pause at Good Friday. It is a sobering moment and should cause us to once again ponder the immense cost to God! On Sunday we enter into the joy that can only be captured on Resurrection Sunday!
I remember one particular Easter moment when I was in my early 30’s. I was driving to my grandmother’s home to pick up my yearly Easter almond ring. Yum! On the way there the radio played Handel’s Messiah chorus. So I turned the volume way up. It was a moment to be sure! Resurrection Sunday, top down on the convertible, 70 degrees, , and Handle’s Messiah! And an almond ring! I believe that God gifts us with these moments to experience just a small portion of the joy we will have in heaven. It is always a touch of His grace.
There are many hymns composed for Easter including “Crown Him With Many Crowns, Jesus Christ is Risen Today, and The Hallelujah Chorus” to name a few. As we look at the familiar Hallelujah Chorus, we soon realize that it is a portion of a much larger, three piece work by Handle entitled Messiah. The part we know the best is The Hallelujah Chorus. Why not find a Christian choir on the internet and sing along?
